DRIVEWAYS IN SPRING HILL
Most Spring Hill driveway work is short residential runs on infill lots. New builds going in between established homes, or older drives that were never built with a real base to begin with. Builder-grade drives get thin rock spread over loose sand, and a few wet seasons later they rut, spread, and wash. We strip that out, cut a proper subgrade, and rebuild with compacted limerock — the Florida standard for a reason.
Connecting to an established street matters here too. The apron has to meet the road at the right height so water runs along the road edge instead of down your drive. We crown the surface and pitch it so rain sheds off the sides. If the drive crosses a swale or ditch, a culvert keeps the flow moving under it instead of through it. Asphalt millings are an option if you want a tighter, darker surface than raw rock.
WHAT’S INCLUDED
- Subgrade prep. We strip the failed material and cut a stable base before any rock goes down.
- Compacted limerock base. Spread in lifts and compacted, not just dumped and dragged.
- Crown & drainage. The surface is shaped so water sheds off instead of pooling and washing.
- Millings option. Recycled asphalt millings for a firmer, cleaner-looking finished surface.
- Culverts where needed. Pipe set and covered where the drive crosses a ditch or swale.

My builder-grade driveway keeps washing out. Can you fix it or does it need a rebuild?
Usually it needs a rebuild, and usually that is cheaper long-term than re-topping it every year. Thin rock over loose sand fails no matter how many times you add material on top. We strip it, compact the subgrade, and put down a real limerock base with a crown so water sheds. Text us photos of the drive and we will tell you straight which one it needs.
Do I need a permit for a new driveway in Spring Hill?
If you are cutting a new connection to a county-maintained road, Hernando County may require a driveway connection permit — check with the county before the work starts. Rebuilding an existing drive on your own property is usually simpler. We will tell you what we know for your situation when we look at the job.
