Low ground is hard on driveways. Around Hudson, drives sit close to the water table, and rain has nowhere to go unless the drive is built to move it. We rebuild rutted, washboarded drives on coastal ground — Hudson is inside our regular working area.

Hudson driveway problems mostly come down to water. The ground is low, the water table is high, and after a hard rain a flat drive turns into a pond. Then traffic works the wet base into ruts and washboard. Adding rock on top of a soaked, rutted drive buys you a few months. The fix is rebuilding it: cut the ruts out, get the subgrade shaped, and put down compacted limerock — the Florida standard base — with a real crown so water sheds off instead of sitting on it.
Swales and roadside ditches do a lot of the drainage work in Pasco’s coastal neighborhoods, and your driveway cannot dam one up. Where a drive crosses a swale, we set culvert pipe so the water keeps moving under it. Getting the drive up above the wet with the right pitch is most of the battle out here. Millings over the rock are an option if you want a firmer surface that stands up better to standing-water season.
Not by itself. If the drive sits low and flat, new rock just becomes wet rock, and it ruts again. The drive needs to be built up and crowned so rain sheds off, and if it crosses a swale it needs a culvert so water passes under instead of over. Text photos of the drive after a rain to (352) 584-2842 — that tells us most of what we need to know.
Rebuilding an existing drive on your own property usually does not, but a new connection to a county-maintained road may require a driveway permit from Pasco County — and culvert work in a county right-of-way can too. Check with Pasco County before starting a new connection. We will flag it if your job looks like one that needs it.
