DIRT WORK IN DADE CITY
Dade City is the hill country of this part of Florida. Building anything here — a pad, a barn, a parking spot for equipment — usually starts with making flat ground out of ground that isn’t. That’s cut-and-fill: the dozer cuts into the hillside, the material goes into the low side, and you end up with a level bench that the land didn’t give you.
The farm side of Pasco’s hills brings its own work. Long farm lanes wash out and rut up on the grades, and they need repair material hauled in, spread, and packed — not just dumped in the holes. Because the truck and the machines are one outfit, the material shows up and gets worked in the same visit. Dade City is inside our regular working area, so hill work out here is regular work for us.

QUESTIONS
My Dade City property is all slope. Can you really make a level pad on it?
Yes. That’s what cut-and-fill is for. We cut into the high side, place and compact that material on the low side, and bench a flat spot into the hill. Photos of the site tell us how big a bench the ground will give you.
My farm lane washes out on the grade every year. What actually fixes it?
Material packed in and graded so water runs off the lane instead of down it. Filling the ruts alone just reloads the same washout. We bring the material, spread it, compact it, and shape the lane to shed water.
