BUSHHOGGING IN INVERNESS
Inverness land tends to come with big oaks — and those oaks are usually the reason you bought it. The problem is everything growing underneath them. Brush, vines, and volunteer growth fill in the understory until the land you pictured sitting under those trees is land you can’t walk through. Bushhogging knocks the understory down without touching the oaks.
The lakes are the other half of it. Lakeside lots around the Tsala Apopka chain grow in fast, and an overgrown lot means no view and no access to your own water. We mow it back down so you can see the lake from the lot and the lot from the lake. It’s mowing, not removal — growth comes back, so plan on cutting it more than once.

Can you clear under my oaks without hurting them?
Yes — that’s the point of bushhogging versus clearing. We mow the brush and undergrowth beneath the canopy and work around every trunk. Nothing standing gets cut. If you ever want trees actually removed, that’s a land-clearing job and a different conversation, and in Citrus County tree removal can have its own rules.
Do I need a permit to bushhog a lakeside lot in Inverness?
Mowing brush typically doesn’t need a permit. But near the water, be careful about anything beyond mowing — removing vegetation along a shoreline can involve Citrus County or state rules. We stick to mowing the upland growth. For shoreline-specific questions, check with Citrus County before going further.
